A visitor at Boston University may think there are not many ways to work out on campus. This is because of the hustling and bustling of the city and the limited space availability. Because of BU’s campus a visitor may believe that students and staff just don’t have many options for staying active, making them question how so many students managed to stay in shape. But after a few days, visitors generally come to the realization that there are many easy ways to stay active. The BU campus offers a recreational fitness center just a half a mile away from Warren towers and a running path by the Charles River.
Jennifer Marcus from Boston University’s Fitness and Recreation Center shared that the student body attending Boston University can come to the fitness center for free whenever they’d like. When asked about the facility Marcus stated, “We have five floors. We have a weight and cardio room; there’s a track, a climbing wall, a pro shop, 6 racquet ball courts and two swimming pools.” This fitness center was astonishingly more equipped than anticipated. The facility is well maintained and thriving, also because the facility payment is included in student’s tuition, the gym is convenient for all students to use. Not to mention, the location is right on the main road, Common Wealth Avenue, which makes it easy for students to stop in and get some exercise. Boston University student Natalie Moffett explained how she thoroughly enjoys working out at the fitness center. When asked how she finds time to come to the center Natalie replied by saying, “ I come between classes, like when I have two hours.” The Boston University fitness center is a remarkable center for all students to step in whenever they please and get some exercise.
Another way to stay in shape at Boston University is running along the Charles River path. The Charles River path is a 17-mile biking and running path, which goes from the Museum of Science all the way to Watertown. The path is right along the water, so one can admire the river while staying active. BU student Tanya Moronge stated, “ I enjoy running along the water, I think its really peaceful and there’s always people around which motivates me to run. I go when there’s a sunset, so when I’m done I can enjoy it.” Just like Tanya many other Boston University students admire this path for its beauty and energetic vibe. The Charles River path is also convenient because it is located on campus near many dorms.
Although at first Boston university may seem to lack fitness opportunities, BU truly does offer some amazing fitness spots many students love going to.
